Timing

Hi folks.
I know that I could probably do a search and find the answer, but I'm at work with a slow system and no surf time. I just replaced the distributor, coil, plugs, cap, and rotor on my truck (1990 f250 4x4 5.8 liter 5sp) I attempted to put the dist in exactly where it came out, but may have missed a tooth, the timing seems a little off. Reading some past posts, people talk about unplugging the advance and setting to 10 btdc. I don't have the dura spark, so don't know what to unplug. Is it the spout? When I look up timing in my Chilton to figure out what to unplug, it says that it cannot be adjusted and leaves it at that.
Is the computer going to correct on it's own, or do I need to hook up the light and set it myself? And, what do I unplug first?

Thanks, Dave

No the computer will not correct it. You have to adjust it.

You unplug the SPOUT hook up the light to number one plug and adjust the distributor to 10 deg BTDC.

Thank You!!!!!!! Should be back to normal this evening. As I was taking things apart it looked long overdue (corrosion, etc). Wonder why Chilton says that there is no adjustment?

Sure is a relief having this thing running again.

I do not know as do not have a Chilton.

If you want to work on your truck get a 1990 Ford Truck Shop Manual & Electrical & Vacuum Trouble-Shooting Manual.

No after market manual even comes close to the Ford Manuals.
You can get a new one from Helm Inc or a used one from ebay.

Hey folks,
The truck runs like a striped assed ape now.... Could it be that my timing was off all along? The truck never ran bad, missed, or anything (plugs looked normal when I took them out). Just never reacted the way it does now. Or, could just the new parts be the improvement? I was thinking that the person that had it before had set the timing without unplugging the spout (not something every Joe Blow would know). Guess the why for isn't important, it's like I got a new truck now.

Thanks for the help.
