Two things i would check. . . one is all fuses. . . number two is the number 30 fuse on the inside of the truck. It controls the fuel heater and also the PCM relay. The fuel heaters have been known to blow them out. So if its blown out you may have to replace the fuel heater to keep it from happening. More symptoms would be nice. Does the tach come up? do you get a WTS light? Does the oil pressure build? If the tach moves, you don't get a WTS light and the oil pressure i think doesn't build. . . its probably a 30 fuse. What year truck is it? Another idea is it could be and IDM. They have been known to give problems in the past. Hope this helps.

Don't use starting fluid to start your truck. Use WD-40 or something close to that. SF is way to hot for the Diesel's High Compression, it can blow a headgasket, or a whole in a pistion etc. Well lets start with the obvious stuff first. The fuel fliter. Have you changed it lately of inspected it along with the fuel bowl too, for sediment. Are you able to hear your fuel pump running. You should hear a huummmm coming from the pump. Let's start there. Let me know what yah find if anything. Country

good idea start simple first. I think with my fuel filter experiences. . . they would run rough for a while. . . die. . . usually start again, run rough, die. and eventually not run anymore. But if it was really quick rough and die. . . and you're sure its not a fuel delievery to the injectors problem. . . then look around where I told you too. Let us know. Many of us work some pretty late hours on here. I still havn't gotten that overtime check yet. . .
Tim

I see this is your first post. . . sorry it couldn't be on better terms but you couldn't have found a better place. Enjoy your stay and hopefully you make that an extended stay

I second the fuel filter, if it was #30 fuse you wouldn't see the WTS light. Welcome to FTE.

I agree with the #30 fuse check. I just had this happen to me this weekend. Truck acted like it was running out of fuel and died, wouldn't start back up. Checked all fuses and wallaaa. #30 was blown. Good Luck and welcome to the best site to learn how to work on our trucks.

Welcome to the site, hope you find the help you ask for. Other than the suggestions already giving, One question for you, how do you know your CPS is good? Other obvious things to check that could cause your problems, engine oil OK, last fillup WAS diesel and not gas, fuel tank does have fuel? And like stated, don't use starter fluid if at all possible, if you must, use as little as possible.

its nice knowing that if the oil does get low on our trucks, they'll shut off before it runs low enough to do major damage

Is the fluid burnt? Sounds like it's time to start looking for a transmission. BTS (Brian's Truck Shop). It's the last transmission that'll go into your truck.
