I have a 78 Ford F150 4x4. I currently have a 351M with C6 tranny and married 205 t-case. I've also got a 300 six, 79 or 80 i think, that i want to put in my truck. My question is I want to put a C6 behind it for ease of installation, or maybe even a sturdy 4sp auto, what other small blocks share the bellhousing pattern with the 300 and how hard is it to find either a C6 or 4sp auto with the short output shaft for 4wd?? I would appreciate any help.
For the years 83' to 96' I am sure that all of Ford's 4.9Ls, 5.0Ls, and 5.8Ls shared the same bell housing. You might want to keep the C6 for easy installation and just have the current driveshaft shortened.
1994 Ford F150
300-6
Highly Modified and more to come!
Watch out! I think the 351M/400 used a unique bellhousing, or the 429/460 pattern, either one of which won't work with the 300's small-block V-8 pattern.
I think it's detailed on this site in the "Articles" section, or somewhere in the Ford webring, what-fits-what.
thanks, i know that the 351M shares the bellhousing pattern of the the 400/429/460. and I know that the small blocks are the same also, at least the v8's, i just wasn't sure if the 300 shares the bellhousing pattern of the 289/302/ and 351 smallblocks. I'm going to keep the c6 i have now, i have several big blocks around here and i've got 2grand in the tranny, with new E40D super low 1st and 2nd steel gears instead of the aluminum standard ones. I have it set up sweet and i was going to put a 429 i have into my truck, but i had this 300 sitting around and i know it's a torque monster, so i've decided to go with it. I'm really looking forward to sticking it in there, but want to decide first about the tranny situation.
Hey, Ivanhoe, where are you at? What year is that 300? How trashed is it? Anything wrong that wouldn't be cured in the process of building up a blueprinted motor?
I may want to buy that 1-ton 300 off you...
I'm in Houston, but I've been known to drive across the country to pick up stuff I want!
