Rocker arms

Is the increase in power for 1.7 rocker arms really worth the money? Does anyone have any suggestions on what ones to buy? Also do you have to replace the factory springs or anything to put these in or is it pretty much just a swap the old stock ones out for the new ones?

Ford found a 15 hp increase in using full roller 1.7's over the stock 1.6 stamped steel rockers in their development fo the 93 Cobra 5.0. Some is due to the increased lift, some from the stabilized ratios and most from the friction reduction in the roller trunion. No other mods needed for pedestal full roller 1.7's, just change the pushrods when you do the rockers (if your motor's a roller cam and has about 100K miles or more on the pushrods)

1.7 rockers provide a pretty good boost to total valve lift pushing it from 0.422/0.448 to 0.447/0.476, but the duration remains much the same so the powerband doesn't change a lot. Most people with 1.7 RR's report a nice boost at max rpm but not as much elsewhere. Combined with longtube headers they are probably the best upgrades for the 302 in the relatively easy to add category.

Definately worth the money. Even if you buy new. You can still find used sets for $100 or so. I've bought two used sets for $100-125. One set had 100K miles on them according to the seller. I've had this same set of rockers on three different engines in the past 5 years and they show no signs of giving up. Another benefit is lower oil temps, your oil stays cleaner & cooler longer. In my opinion, buying full roller rockers is a damn site better buy than any of the dizens of "cold air" kits that are so popular now.
