I have a 2000 Excursion with an after market HU. I got in the X today and the my radar detector was not working and my radio was also not getting power. I removed the fuses for these items they were fine. While checking them the radar came back on but not the radio. I checked every fuse under the dash all were fine. Is there another location for a fuse that would effect the radio? One other wierd thing happened after checking the fuses which I did while the X was running maybe a mistake but after I turned it off it would not start so back to the fuses I pulled one fuse and put it back in I think it was 20 or 21 but then the car started. When it was not starting it did nothing but I did have the click at the relay by the fuse box. I love the clean install of teh radio and could run a new power wire but I like to have things right. Thanks for any help on this I am driving out of town Wed hope to fix before then

You can try removing the radio and checking for a constant 12v with the X off then turn the ignition on the search for another 12v which would be switched.
If the speakers are on a different plug try unpluging from the radio and try again, if you have aligator clips you can remove the radio and hook it up to the battery directly 12v for both constant and ign and the ground. GL!
I know that I've seen after market products have a secondary inline fuse... follow the "hot" wire from the back of the radio to where ever it gets power.

Betcha it has a secondary fuse. Good luck!!
Oh yeah forgot about that, make sure also that the no wires are not being pinched.
I forgot to add in the first post I have a second Pioneer HU that has a Ford plug on it plug that one into the harness and it still did not work. Do you think there could be an inline fuse between the plug on the radio harness to the fuse panel? The fuse on teh back of the radio tested fine also. Thanks for the ideas so far.
Thanks for the help ended up running a wire from the fuse to the radio works now. I just shoved the wire behind the radio fuse which looks like crap and I am sure is the wrong way to do it how can I attach this wire the correct way?

Yes there are special clips that allow you to attach a wire "behind" the fuse (where fuse plugs into the junction box). Where to get? A business that does radio or cell installs on vehicles should have them.
If you are talking about fuse "junction box" then make sure where you attach your radio's hot wire is on the side of the fuse that will allow the fuse to "trip" if your radio ever has a short or what ever. Get that?
--power from ignition-----FUSE terminal A_______B FUSE terminal---power to accessory
Put the wire under the B Fuse terminal side.
Also, It wouldn't hurt to put an inline fuse between the power source and radio... I've also seen people fuse the ground as well.
Be easy on my diagram, guys & gals.

The easiest way I know of is to pull the fuse... turn the ignition switch on... and use a continuity tester on each terminal end to determine which terminal is hot when the ignition is hot... don't have a tester? Easily made.... connect one end of a grounded wire to the neg side of a autolight.... and from the pos side of the autolight run the wire to what you wish to test for positive continunity.
BTW... I use a simple pin tester with the light in the pin and a wire with a gator clip for the ground.
