Cold Heat

Flushed my radiator system last week. Drained material looked pretty clean. Now I don't have any heat (?) temp gauge up ~170 F. Just finished removing heater core. It is clean as a whistle. I rinsed with a diluted muratic acid solution since I went to all the trouble of taking it out. Got it back together and still no heat. Drove it for ~1 hr this am and it started to blow hot air. Only lasted about 10 minutes and started to blow cold air again. Any suggestions / advice?

Maybe the valve going to the core in the heater line? 170 deg. should be warm enough but the t-stat controls min engine temp. Maybe it's stuck open. I'm not sure what the t-stat is supposed to be rated at but I would think 190 deg.

Sounds like you have a air pocket in the heater. Turn on the heater full blast, loosen the top heater hose when you first start the cold engine (so you don't get burnt) and see if you can bleed out the air. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator during this process.
