Help with transfer case

Been lurking here for a while, now I need an answer, and I know someone on here is more than qualified to answer. 2000 F-250 PSD, ESOF 4X4. The transfer case is slipping, or something. Makes a really awful noise, and I'm not really all that fond of really awful noises. So, I have found a different t-case for $300. Problem is, it came off of a 5-speed, and I have a 6-speed. So my question is if there is any difference, and if there is, is it possible to make it fit.

The transfer case is most likely the same, so as long as you reuse your tailshaft adapter it should bolt up. It never hurts to verify the bolt pattern though.

Ok, now I need a few terminology pointers. All my experience so far has been with a 2wd '93 Ranger with close to 300,000 on it. So transfer cases are a little new for me. The tailshaft adaptor should remain bolted to the tranny when I drop the t-case, correct. I'm assuming that it is the back section of the tranny. Oh, and has anyone else had anything like this with thier truck?

Yes, the tailshaft adapter houses the jack shaft that spins the transfer case input. Typically transfer cases of the same models have the same bolt pattern. Transmission are the same, so since you are dealing with two different transmissions, you need to keep your tailshaft adapter to bolt up the other case.
