I made a post a couple of days ago about how I am picking up my 06 CC SB Lariat 6.0 with 30k miles. It has been sitting on a lot for almost a year. I had a guy refoer in my other post to "lot rot." Is this a real issue with teh diesels?? I read on another thread that the turbos crap teh bed from time to time when they sit for a while. Just let me know. I know it is under warranty but I cant get caught with a crap truck. Just some input
if it has been sitting for a year it is very possible that the turbo has stuck. go drive the truck, see how it feels. i would be worried about flat spotted tires first.
thanks for the info. How likely is it that the turbo is messed up. Will it be quite apparent?? I am a gasser guy and I wouldnt have any idea if a diesel sounded bad or not, lol. They all sound bad. I have driven several and if it doesnt feel like the rest i'll bolt. Anything Else
Just take it out and put it to the floor and watch the boost gauge. It should go up to around 28 PSI give or a take 2 PSI depending on the truck. From all the reading that I have done on the forum here this should help free up a turbo that might be ready to start have sticking problems. Also if you are towing and you see the boost gauge go over 30 to 32 PSI this might be indicative of a turbo sticking. It is true when these trucks sit for a long time the unison ring inside the turbo can rust and start to stick. By putting your foot in it once in awhile this helps the surfaces to rub on one another keeping them from sticking.
Thanks again for the responce. I am supposed to drive in a couple of hours so you see my reason for haste. I have heard of this before and got reading on the site , like I always do and just got a little freaked out. Any more responces of what maybe to look for would be great. These trucks do have a 100k mile warranty right?? Should I opt for the extended?? I just got one of the moderators to pull an OASIS on it and it came back clean except for a sticking fuel guage. Thanks man
IF THE TURBO IS STUCK YOU WILL KNOW RIGHTAWAY,without the turbo these trucks can be guttless.kick it down and it should plant you back into the seat if not the turbo might be stuck.
I bought a new 2007 F250 in May of 07 with 5 miles on it, that had a build date of August 06. It obviously had been sitting there for awhile. I haven't had any problems and I am extremely happy with the truck. Godd luck!
Since the truck has been sitting there for a year, tell the salesman you will gladly take it off his hands IF he has his mechanic clean the turbo first. Just a thought.
