Steering Box Rebuild??
Hi Folks,
My 69 F250 2wd has a slowly leaking power steering gearbox. I'm not near the truck so I'm not sure which one it has although the truck is all original and generally unmolested. How difficult is it to rebuild/reseal? Should I just remove it and have it done (might save a couple of $$) or is it even worth doing? Is this one of those repairs that will just have the problem return? In other words should I just replace it with a rebuilt unit?

1969's could have either Bendix power steering (ID #HCE-G), or if after circa serial number F30,000...the Ford unit (ID # SPA-L or L1), used from 1969 and up. Neither is worth rebuilding. If you have the Bendix gearbox, parts are scarce, and parts for the Ford gearbox are pretty much limited to the seal kits...which are still available from Ford, NAPA and prolly everyone else. If it were mine, I'd buy a rebuilt unit from NAPA.

D7AZ-3E501-A .. Sector Shaft Seal Kit DFP = List: $33.57 / Net: $23.72
F3AZ-3E502-A .. Input Shaft Seal Kit DFP = List $17.48 / Net $ 12.36
Bendix Seal Kits are obsolete from Ford, but FTE sponsor Green Sales (800-543-4959) had some the last time I checked.
C6TZ-3E500-A .. Master Seal Kit (includes both the following)
C6TZ-3E501-A .. Sector Shaft Seal Kit
C6TZ-3E502-A .. Input Shaft Seal Kit
