i was talking with a friend of mine about my truck today and told him i think im going to take her in, that she isnt running right. i told him im glad it under its warranty. he asked me how its a 2004 with 53,000 miles on it . i told him that since its a diesel it has a 5 year 100,000. he then said i dont think since you didnt buy it new it was used. and then he proceeded to tell me that his 06 powerstroke only had a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty on it and he bought it new.im just trying to clear up these issues with him so the more responses i get the better, or heck maybe im all together wrong.
the 3 year 36k is the bumper to bumper warranty then there is the 5 yr 60k mile powertrain warranty then there is the 100k mile warranty on the internal componets on the motor. That is my understanding on the warranties. I don't think buying it used matters the warranty is on the truck not the owner.
buying it used does not affect the warranty. i bought my 04 used in jan of this year and all warranty work concerning parts under the 5yr / 100,000 mile portion have been approved.

Just to clarify the "5/60 powertrain" warranty is only on trucks built after July 2006. Trucks built prior to July 2006 do not have a 5/60k powertrain warranty.
As stated All SD have 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/100k diesel engine warranty. Also all trucks have an emissions warranty length and covered parts depend on the state it is registered in (CA emissions states are different).
The manufactures warranties go with the vehicle, it does not matter who owns it.
Not sure where to post this question, but with all the warranty work required, is there a rating anywhere to be found on customer satisfaction, quality of work, etc on various dealer service departments. I am on the Oregon coast and have to drive an hour to any of half a dozen dealers...it would be nice to have an idea of which one will treat me most fairly. Went ahead and made appointment with Power Ford in Newport, but over the phone he told me they don't do flash updates on computer unless it is required by the symptoms of your truck. Ford won't pay for it...
It's my understanding that if your truck doesn't have the latest flash Ford will install it when it's in the shop as long as you're still under the factory 3yr 36k warranty. When your past that period they will ask becasue you do have to pay out of pocket.
i just took my 06 f350 in it has 38,000 miles it was blowing white smoke at stop signs and lights. from what ive read in the warranty guide book. it states that emissions defect and performance is covered on diesel engines 5yr,100,000 miles. it also said that there is not a deductable. am i reading it wrong? or does that only cover certain things? like pcm cat and emissions diagnostic devices? on page 14 of the warranty guide book it states what is covered under emissions warranties for diesel engines. my question here is when and if is the deductable required??

If a repaired item is on the emissions warranteed list there will not be a deductible. If a repaired item is not on that list, but is on the powerstroke 5/100 list, you will owe $100. This is assuming you are past the 3/36 period and have no other ESP provisions. For example, I just had an EGR replaced. That component is covered under both emissions and powerstorke warranty. It cost me $0.00.
when i took it in the service guy told me i would owe the deductable and was quite rude to me when i asked questions about the possible dealer egr disconnect and the proceedures they use to diagnois a problem such as mine. i am younger im 23 but i know my way around my truck. i just want to be certain when i call this guy out for tryin to get an extra 100 out of me.

I'm not following you on the "dealer egr disconnect". I can assure you the dealer will not disconnect your egr for you. And yes, a lot of shops will get annoyed if you start asking them about how they do their job. That's just a people problem.
So, do you have a bad EGR? If so, don't let them BS you. There should not be any deductible for that repair. Insist on speaking with the shop supervisor. Also, find the page in your warranty guide that lists all the covered parts.
