exhaust

LAST EDITED ON 10-Jul-01 AT 04:40 PM (EST)[p]anybody got any ideas on what would cause the exhaust on a 4.9 to smell like rotten eggs? Im thinking that it is possibly due to a clogged cat but the truck seems to be running fine. This only happens from time to time and just for a moment after starting the engine...also my 4.9 is a 93 model with 116,000 miles.I changed wires, dist, rotor and plugs, but was wondering what sensors and filters I should change. The truck was worked pretty hard by its previous owner on a farm. Thanks

Rotten eggs? Sounds like some sulfides in your engine. Do you drive the truck any distances to allow it to heat up well and burn off the nasties that accumulate in the oil on a regular basis? Try changing the oil and checking the PCV.

It's your cat. It's not plugged, they just get strange chem reactions going. Run a can of Sea Foam through your gas and it should take care of it.
