I have a 1984 F-150 lifted 4x4 that I frequently use for towing 8000Lbs. It is powered by a fresh 351w, and an old C4. The tow seems to be killing the C4, not to mention the tranny leaks about 1qt per week.
Question is:
Could I install a C6? Would it tow better? I know there may be some modification to the driveline, I just don't want to scrap the 351w.
How did a c4 get in there? It should have a c6 originally. It should be very easy to find a 4x4 c6 that will fit, since all the 80's automatic pickups with 300's, 302's and 351w's had the c6, except the ones that had overdrive. If yours has been rigged with a c4, then get the driveshafts too.
