Inline Tuner?

My diesel mechanic recomended I get an inline tuner like Edge or Godzilla? I really want to get the DP Tuner but I'm not sure it's an "inline" set up. The mechanic said the chips you attach to the computer tend to vibrate loose eventually leaving you stranded. He also said the download type tend to "flash" the computer also leaving you stranded. Has anyone experienced any of these problems?

Your mechanic is a moron.

Firstly old chips have in the directions to tape them down, and when they fall out, the computer returns to default. Hard chips would be my last choice.

In line modules take what the sensors are reading, modify it to trick computer and send to the stock programming. This is only slightly better than hard chips because some are adjustable.

Flash tuners are the best option. The more option you can get out of one the better it is. Flash tuners send your corrected A/F, Timing and driveline program to the computer. Once it is uploaded, it is there until it is erased. Only a signal to the ECM and a EMP can erase this file once successfully uploaded. I have used an old Superchip hard chip, Hypertech PPP, Edge evolution and Juice/attitude, Superchip max tuner, and Sniper special Forces. I love my special Forces.

Flash tuners are the best. There is nothing wrong with a chip either. I prefer a flash...as most people use just one setting 80% of the time...

I'd look into a SCT tuner. They work great on Ford products. I used one on my last truck after trying both a hypertech & superchip hard chip & it was much better in every way. The shifting alone was worth the change from the hard chips. They had real hard shifts where the SCT shifts fast but it didn't slam my tranny like the chips did.I think the chips raised the line pressure too high which caused the real hard shifts.
