I bought a 2005 Supercrew in August. It was a good deal and I didn't want to pass it up. It had 18,000 miles and was a Ford Certified Preowned vehicle. I ride 2 wheels until the snow flies and drove the truck very little since then. Well, the snow flies and I start driving the truck a lot more. I noticed that the front tow hooks are missing. The truck is an XLT model and I have seen other XLT's with tow hooks. I just got an oil change at the dealership today and asked them about it. They said they are missing, so what. I talked to the sales manager to see if he'll replace them at his cost. I'm figuring that it shouldn't have been sold that way. After a long conversation he basically said that after 4 months he shouldn't have to do anything for me. So, my question is, should I call Ford and complain about the missing hooks or just buy them and put them on myself. The truck was supposed to be inspected per the pre owned warranty but I know it wasn't.
imho you would be better off to bite the bullet and buy the hooks because ford even though they make the best full size truck their dealerships ships suck at taking care of people and their customer service representives are just as bad
I'd say you're out of luck...just cause its preowned doesn't mean its just the same as when it was bought...it just means its in mechanically good shape. the tow hooks have no bearing on the running of your truck......it sucks....but i think your out of luck
the 4x2 don't always come with tow hooks...and unfortunately, since you bought it used, and didn't notice for 4 months, well I hate to say it, but it's kinda your mistake
look in the classifieds on the site or on eBay. those things aren't hard to come by. I'm actually debating selling mine since I've got a bull bar installed right now
Yeah I hate to say it, but after 4 months the dealer shouldn't be responsilbe for anything but warranty repairs. My local dealership actually has really good customer service and will do anything in there power to get me back on the road and keep me happy, so theres a good dealership out there somewhere.

I'll probably end up buying them but it still doesn't seem right. I can see the dealer not changing wheels, tires, exhaust etc that were changed by a previous owner but the truck had 18,000 miles when I got it and the hooks should have been noted as missing and replaced. Oh well, guess I'm being too picky.

yep, I think I am out of luck. I understand that a dealer shouldn't have to take a truck back to stock condition but this truck had 18,000 miles and it should have been caught in the supposed inspection and reinstalled.

It's a 4 x 4 XLT. This is my first Ford, ever. Plus it's my first 4 wheel drive pickup. I guess I didn't educate myself enough. Let me know if you sell yours, I may want them.
Welcome to the site. If your rig is a 4x2 there is a good chance it probably didn't come with the hooks from the factory. If it's a 4x4...the previous owner or the guys in the dealer's shop have ebayed them. Fortunately they are not that expensive, looks like you can get a set off ebay for around $30. There will be alot of them posted on ebay a couple days after x-mas after everyone gets the bull bars they asked for.

I thought my dealership would care about their customers but I guess not. Now I'm worried about getting warranty work done so I may end up dropping the whole issue. Now I'm wondering if I should have bought a Ford.
Unfortunately dealer's lack of customer service cost Ford more customers than problem trucks. It would have been nice if the parts dept would have given you their cost for the hooks...but if you spend some time on here reading you'll note that many have had negative experiences with their local dealer. If you're close to a dealer who actually cares about earning your business post sale you're in the minority.
That being said I've had bad customer service at Nissan, Toyota, Dodge and Chebby as well. The only dealer that ever gave me continued excellent service is the local Lexus dealer. But you gotta pay for that type of service.

Think about what you're saying, man. You're questioning your purchase of a Ford because you bought one USED and it's missing a friggin' tow hook??!!
Frd67cobra, I totally agree, now if his truck was having continued problems than that would be a good reason for not liking the ford but for something like tow hooks which my truck doesn't have and have never needed them it, and questioning the dealership doing warranty work, if it was a warranty issue than they would of taken care of it, but its not. My advice get the tow hooks off ebay, then give them a chance with an oil change and some warranty work.

I'm with you on that. Give them a chance on mechanical issues. The thing of it is, as Tylus mentioned, why did it take him 4 months to notice one was missing? If he had inspected the truck a little more closely during the purchase, they probably would have worked with him on that to make the sale.
