well, that's definetely the more fun way, but if your rear end still has the tag attached to one of the diff. pan bolts, just look for an "L". me personally, i'd do it tallpaul's way just for the fun of it.
I thought of the "peel out test" because my boss would tell me about a movie, "My Cousin Vinnie," where a guy stops at a gas station for a candy bar and ends up on trial for murder because the attendant was robbed and shot right after the guy left and his car looked like the culprits car. So they get Cousin Vinnie, a New York mechanic who is taking a correspondence course on how to be a lawyer, to represent him at the murder trial. It turns out that because Vinnie is a mechanic he proves the guy is innocent because he has an open differential, but the murderer's car left dual peel out tracks.
By the way, there is a third way to tell if you have a limited slip that has to do with jacking the rear up and spinning one wheel and I think seeing which way the other wheel turns or something like that.

Actually, it wasn't Vinnie, but his girlfriend who testifies as an automobile expert. Fun movie to watch, but a valid point about open/posi (limited slip) rears.
