Wierd Squeek

Ok This is going to be a strange one. I have a squeek that starts about 20mph but does not seem to change with speed above that. it is like a bird chirping and "chirps" about every 1.5 sec. Seems to come from the passenger side but I have tried for months to find it. Cannot really tell if front or back - my kids in the back tell me its loudest in the passenger rear?

ANY ideas would be investigated.

thanks

I had an annoying squeak from the rear that turned out to be the tailgate latches, where the latch touches the post. Some grease solved it.

I have the same thing to look at as soon as it stops raining... It sounds like it's coming from the "B" pillar area , passenger side... I'm going to look at the way the back doors are sticking the jamb near the hinges.

I had the exact same noise, Turned out to be the door latches, I greased them and no more squeek.

Just white grease, or ?? I was thinking about electrical contact grease to insure the internal switches for the dome lights would be better protected. Wadaya think?

I used UZ blue lithium, It does not interfere with electrical conections and stays put for a long time.

I got restless aboyt 2:30, and lubed the most irritating door with the di-electric grease... After a 25 mile drive that would have normally caused the squeaking to start, they did not! Perhaps we're on to something here!!

I am still struggling with this. HAve greased, oiled, and cussed everything i can think of. HAve driven with friends in the bed to try to locate it. Seems to be geeting worse or more pronounced. I am now leaning towards carrier bearings, have oiled then from the outside with penetrating oil and maybe saw some difference. It is coming from the back of the truck but is very strange. Any other ideas?

You might have something there. Drop out the driveshaft along with the carrier bearing, rotate the u joints and see if they feel stiff or you see any rust looking residue around the needle bearings. also, spin the carrier bearing by hand and see if it feels rough or stiff, if so , replace it. good luck and keep us posted.

Had the same thing, thought it was in the wheel somewhere. Tightened all the lugs, and it turned out to be the tailgate. Greased the two posts and presto!! Good luck man.

I have lubed the tailgate - still have the squeek. Lubed the carrier bearing and still have the squeek. Will try the water hose idea.

If this is the carrier bearing - how hard is it to change at home? Was hard to tell from the TSB.

thanks
