Ran Codes- Oh, Oh

I ran the codes this morning on my '89 302 and this is what I found:

KOEO
11-excellent, or so I thought!!

KOER
12-cannot control RPM during ER Self Test high RPM check
25-knock not sensed during dynamic test (I believe this would explain my spark knock issues!!)
33-EGR valve opening not detected
44-thermactor air injection system inoperative (right side)-I removed the air pump, so I believe that explains that.

So, knock sensor, where exactly is it located?....imagine it is not easily accessable.

Code 12-not sure where to start with that one.

How do I go about troubleshooting the EGR? What I have done so far is:
1. Verified EGR reacts to vacuum (by using a hand pump....which it does)
2. Checked the voltage to the solinoid that supplies vacuum to the EGR Vv. It was only .5 v at idle and increased to 1.1v at 2000rpm. Not sure what the correct voltage should be.
3. Checked vacuum at the solinoid (drivers side, buy the coil). It wasn't a strong vacuum, it more or less fluttered and only pulled about 3 or 4 PSI.

Any suggestions/comments welcome.

Dan

Well with those issues it sounds like you might have an engine problem.. what do your plugs look like? How does your motor run?

For the 12 unplug the IAC valve while idling, it should then idle at a lower RPM or die. If it does not then you have a stuck IAC valve, no power to it (red wire 12 Volts) or the EEC Computer is not grounding pluses to it.

For the 25 the knock sensor is located dead center at the very back of the block on top.

For the 33 you should have 12 Volts on the red wire all the time the key is on at the solenoid. You need engine vacuum on the vacuum line of about 18 inches. When not running the self-test the EGR valve only opens with a warm engine at mid throttle above about 30 MPH.

I cleaned the IAC again, with no difference...I mean the idle still stumbles whe I first start the truck. Once it warms up, it idles fine at about 700-750 RPM.

I found the knock sensor with a mirror, and there is no plug in it!! I'll wait until I can get underneath the truck and root around for it.

I double checked the voltage at the EGR vacuum solinoid and I had 12 v. I actually removed the EGR and cleaned it out. Everything seems to function OK. I had 5v reference and the resistance of the EGR position solinoid was within specs (according to Haynes).

I'll try and get the KS plugged in and take it from there.
