6.0 L fuel consumption while idling

Has anybody every come across what this engine will burn in fuel while idling? I am trying to justify installing a Webasto or Espar coolant heater instead of remote starter.

I tried search the forums but have had no luck.

I have read before that 1 hours of idle is equal to 33miles of driving. not sure of idle speed (high idle) i am sure someone will chime in on this topic soon

I'd guess less than 3 gal per hour.

Using 06F250XLTFX4's scenario that would be about 2 gal per hour.

Just a guess as I've never idled long enough to check.

I do have the high idle mod on mine, and when I am idling for any time at all I normally turn that on because these engines dont like to run at a low RPM for any length of time due to wet slacking. Anyways, I know mine seems like it draws A LOT! of fuel while it is idling.

Also, I have a 1500watt inverter that I use to power four 8' lights in my trailer, and I normally will idle the engine when I am loading or un-loading with the lights on. The worst I have seen it was 1/4 tank over about an hour and a half, other times it is much less....

Just my .02...

There was a thread in the Super Duty forum with a Diesel fuel usage calculation from Ryaneverk2. It was a while back this year and for the 7.3, but it would give you an idea.

It was posted here a while back. It was .8 gal/hour if I remember correctly. Regular idle.
