I'm dealing with a leaking slave cylinder at the moment. I can't work on it till I get back home next week. The previous owner replaced the clutch but not the cylinder, DUH . So I've been told by a few people, previous ford owners and a buddy who is a ford mechanic, that since its already mostly apart replace the master cylinder and the hydraulic line inbetween the two to aleviate any future headaches. They all said since one is failing the others arent too far behind. Anyway back on the topic, Napa priced the master and slave at around $60 a piece for new pieces with a lifetime warranty, but they couldnt get the line inbetween. I called ford and what do you know the line cost $91 friggin dollars! Is there another source to get the line, can a hydraulic shop make one up, or are the ends not a common piece? Or should I not worry about replacing the whole darned thing?
LMC Truck only lists master/slave hose through 92 and that year's price is $94.95. So the price sounds right. Since they don't carry hoses for newer models nor does NAPA, I'd guess that you dont need to worry about replacing it.
Used to have a '90 (that I sold to a friend) with a leaking slave cylinder. I didn't know any better and just changed the slave cylinder at 150k miles. At just over 200k the other parts are still going just fine, but maybe I was lucky.
I don't see why they say the line is failing. line uses a quick connect fitting and generally I don't see anything on it failing except the o-ring.
Rockauto.com lists a prefilled master and line for $76. I don't see them listing the line individually. I know it's available for my 91 at a cost of like $40 from RockAuto.com

I'd check RockAuto as well. That being said, I can se no reason to replace the line, unless it is cracked or otherwise damaged, I've never heard of one failing. Examples, my '92 has 177,XXX miles, new SC and clutch kit, works great with original line and MC. '85 ranger, same deal, 157,XXX, new SC, new MC many years ago, original line. Company truck, '91 F150 300 6, new SC, MC and line original, the truck has over 255,000 miles, clutch works great!
