I know this is the wrong time of year to be thinking about this but I need to start looking for a donor truck if I'm gonna do it.
A few weeks ago I got a 90 F-250 4X4 351 E40D. So far I have been really happy with it. It is about as stripped of a model as you can get......Single tank, power nothing, no cruise, AM RADIO, no air, not even a delay on the windshield wipers.
Anyway I'm thinking about adding ac in the future. It appears to be wired for it and where the compressor would normally mount the bracket is there but there is an idler bolted to it. My experience has been when you try to buy parts indavidually the $$$ starts adding up quick so I'm gonna try and find a donor. Has anyone else done this and how big of a pain was it to do? Any input is greatly appreciated...
hey i went to the junkyard and got all the parts i need for this job (check out my gallery). i've got all the parts i need and i've still spent less than $100. I kept putting this job off then it got colder so i've put it aside for the time being. but as soon as it gets hot again, i'm putting the A/C in. The compressor just goes in right where that bracket is now for you and the wire harness for it should be floating around in there somewhere. having a donor truck will be easier than the route that i took.
You got all that for less than $100? Our junkyards around here are to greedy they want that much for the compressor alone. What about the control panel inside the cab? Did you get that also? I wonder if the wiring is hiding behind there as well. Anybody know?
hey yea all the wiring you need is back there. i got the control head at the junkyard too. i got all the parts i need and have spent under $100. everything was so cheap because i had to pull it myself.
