Exclamation Rough Start

Alright, yes another one because I have read in here to try to solve this problem, but can't figure it out. SO my girlfriend has a 2003 Escape with a 3.0. It has problems when starting, especially in the cold. I replaced the IAC like everyone said, but to no avail. I am banging my head trying to figure this out. I have also ran fuel injector cleaner through it and changed the fuel filter. the truck only has 30,xxx on it. So I don't think the spark plugs are the problem. I see you guys say also the MAF sensor, but is not throwing any codes. Someone please give me some input. Minnesota winters are not nice to get stranded in. I thank you in advance.

Modern day version of a choke is the ECT/engine coolant temp sensor.

Click on "Read first" at the top of the Ranger forum. Theres a thread in there that tells how to test the resistance of the ECT.

If the ECT is telling the PCM that the engine is warm when it's actually cold, it will be hard to start.

So the link is gone??

I dont remember the exact numbers, but when the engine is cold the resistance thru the ECT should be around 60,000 ohms.

Engine warm & the reading should be around 5,000 ohms.

Pull the connector off of the ECT & check with your multi meter.

Look for a sensor with a 2 wire connector near the T-Stat housing.
