Hey I got a wicked chattering sound when I accelerate hard, It's not my carb, because when I throttle it by hand, the sound is near the powere steering pump.... Could it possibly be my fuel pump concentric smacking around in there? It is a stock pump, and frankly I want a reason to replace it anyhow, but does anyone think that may be the problem?
The pump arm usually makes a tapping or pecking sound.
What type engine and how many miles? Could be the timing chain. You could see if it's the timing chain by taking the dist cap off, and watch the rotor as you turn the crankshaft pulley one way, and then the other. If it takes a lot of movement before the rotor starts turning after you change direction, then it's worn. There was a manual where I read the limit of how much movement you can have, but I can't remember what it was.
