I , or we , started the 472 Caddy engine in my 56 for the first time last evening . It sounds awesome with just exhaust manifolds and no pipes. My neighbors were probably impressed . I've been working on the truck for about 2 years , off and on. I learned a lesson with this engine. I could not get it to start on the first several attempts , the past few evenings. Turns out the lifters were not " pumped up". After removing the distributor and turning the oil pump with my drill , it fired up quickly and ran smoothly. Now for a few details , such as pipes , which are already bent and lying in the garage floor, fixing a power steering pump leak , and installing a throttle cable I should be able to take that first ride. My goal now is to drive it on Christmas day. Ho Ho Ho I plan to start my gallery this weekend . The temperature is supposed to be near 70 here Saturday and Sunday. Thanks.
Congrats !....It's always a thrill to hear an engine start up for the first time; just one of those things that keeps us all addicted to this hobby. Pictures pictures we want pictures !
congradulations on it and thanx for not using an sbc . its a world full of different things if you are on the darkside , snd it's refreshing to see other makes being used than the belly button .
Congrats on the first start. That is something I and a lot of others are looking forward to as well. Caddys are great and sound tough. PICS would be nice......
WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!! I'll tip a forsty in your direction as a toast.
When I got my big Caddy running all I had was about 6" of pipe off the exhaust manifolds. I drove it around the neighborhood like that for a month or two (my niehgbors just love me) before I finally managed to get some pipes on it.
I tell you, there's nothing like roasting the tires all the way down the street with open pipes to get the neighbors atention....lol
You're going to love the Caddy engine, the torque is simply amazing, there's no substitute for cubic inches
Good news on your truck finally firing up, it will be easy to spot your smile a mile away. Hope that first ride goes smooth.
I like your temperatures, we`re sitting at 20 below with a windchill like you wouldn`t believe!
