New addition to the family

The truck family, that is.

Found a 78 F250 Ranger, Trailer Special. It's got a 460 with a C6, factory AC, cruise, and the original AM/FM radio. It's got around a 110K miles and it's pretty solid with some rust in the rear wheel wells. It's my first old Ford with a 460, and wow, it's got some guts! I'm happy to have something to tinker with again and I'm sure I'll need to learn a thing or two.

I'll try and get some pictures loaded this weekend.

I assume (since you didn't specify) it's a 2wd, reg cab, longbox. You think it's got guts huh? Bring her out my way and we'll see . But really, way to go!!!

Yeah it's a 2wd, regular cab, longbox.

Hey Mark - I meant to send you a PM... The guy I got the truck from is an OTR trucker, so his "I'll be gone a couple days" last week, turned into a week. I thought maybe he sold it to someone else, but he called me on Tuesday when he got back in town.

Finally got a couple pictures loaded... still have a few more, but for some reason the FTE gallery feature and I don't get along to well. I'll try loading the rest tonight.

Wow, I'd like to know how you always seem to score such clean pickups. All that's out here is junk.........anyway, I think those hubcaps are for 67-72's........they're worth quite abit. I have two in my barn, but they're pretty beat up. You never know how much somebody would be willing to pay for a good set of them.......

Finally got the rest of my photos uploaded.

Not sure what my grand plan will be for this truck, I'd like to get the rust stopped and some fresh paint on it in the spring. I've got to do some reading on Motorcraft 4 bbl carbs too, never had one like this and I can't seem to get the choke set up correctly.

Well Rob......if you don't mind manual choke I happen to have a Holley 750 vac sec that would probably be right at home on that "big" 460. I could never get it jetted right for my "little" 390 so I gave up on it and got a 670 Street Avenger and never looked back (I love it!!!)

Hey Rob, nice truck! That looks almost identical to the 1978 my mom bought new that year, except hers was a -150, and had a white roof. Glad to see you back in a truck!

Thanks guys. I think my life's work is to find unloved 70's model Ford pickups. I got to thinking, if I had kept every one I found, I'd need about 10 acres and very large barn!

Hey Jake, I may be interested in that carb... will it work on the factory intake? I can't figure this Motorcraft carb out, and the guys in the carb forum haven't been very helpful. Seems most have replaced the Motorcraft with something else.

Yep....it will work on a factory intake. I'm not sure how big the holes are for your 460, on my 390 the throttle blades on the carb were just a tad larger, but a small spacer fixed that problem. As I did mention, it is manual choke (I just want you to be aware of that) and it (the choke) probably isn't adjusted that well. I thought I had it set on my 670, but with the cold weather I found out that it's all but set......

Ok, thanks for the info... no problem if it's a manual choke, I was thinking about converting to manual anyway. I did a little checking in the big-block forum, it sounds like I can get a spacer that will work. Man, those guys get pretty hot discussing carb sizes. Half the crowd says go with a 750cfm, and the other half says stick with a stock set up. I don't know who to believe!
