right, that makes sense. I will have to take my steering wheel off to see how hard it would be rebuild it vs. replace. What are the steps for taking a steering wheel such as mine off?
Go to the parts store and get a universal steering wheel puller. I assume that you have a selection of regular tools, etc?
I would go for the total switch replacement, personally. You will already have the wheel off anyway...
Before you unplug and remove the original switch and harness, tie a piece of stout string around the wire plug before you snake it out of the column. When you go to run the new wires back down, it will make it so much easier and faster to finish.

I would get the whole switch. I used one of those Dorman repair kits on my mustang, and now my switch is worse than before. I need a bungee cord on my column to hold the switch in the neutral position. I'll be getting a whole switch this spring.
I just failed inspection Appearently my turn signal lever doesnt hold in place well enough, so i need a new one. Im not sure exactly what to buy though. It has tilt wheel.
thanks!

my truck sometimes wont start. i dont now much about trucks. the battery is new. the steering column was replaced so i think the problem started from that. the signal lights wont work anymore so i think they wired it wrong. i need help!
You will need to make a diagram of the wire configuration as you are looking directly at the pinned end of the curved plug. After you have made your diagram, cause you will need it after your take the colored plastic center locking piece that holds the individual wire pins in place, you will remove the individual wired pins from the connector to allow the wire loom to be extracted from out of the small opening in the steering column as well as running the wires for the new turn signal switch back down through the same small opening. The curved plastic connector will not pass through that opening.... either this way or you cut and splice all of the wires. Personnally I prefer taking the curved connector apart and putting the pinned wires back in the connector, replacing the plastic center locking piece and I'm done.
