I could post the pics of the operation where they removed part of my lung!! I am
sure some people would stop smoking after seeing that nastieness, But of course
others will not. I took the pictures to work and asked everyone if they wanted to
see the pictures from my vacation some did most didn't especially the smokers, I
think it was because with the actual spector of seeing the blackness that actually
does occur and the size of the piece they would have to think what it is doin to
them!! It kind of looks like a piece of steak that is half on the hottest part of the
grill getting burnt and the other half is off the grill all raw!! Luckily I had a good
doctor who used VATS first instead of just splitting my rib cage open and doing it
that way, I only have about a 1.5" large scar and two 1/4 inch ones for the camera
and another tool of some sort. He was able to find the spot that was bad. If
not it is along recovery for a rib split and couldn't imagine it. My friend and his wife
used that chantix pill to quit smoking he was a smoker from like 12 years old and he
says he didn't even want a smoke the second day on the pill and he tried every other
gimmick on the market. It could be worth paying out of pocket for it if your insurance
doesn't cover it, because believe me the price of the damage it can cause is very
high.
Both of my aunts developed emphysema from many years of smoking and died before they were 60 years old. I guess even as a kid I knew first hand what could happen if I smoked. I saw how hard it was for my mom to loose her two sisters and how hard it was for my aunts to get around their last years while they slowly died.
I know how hard it is to quit an addiction. I still have a heavy craving for a dip of Copenhagen. Maybe I always will, but now I have two little ones at home and I always want to be there for them, and that keeps me strong.
I know anyone here can quit. You just have to have a real desire. Good luck to all that have quit, and to those who will.
My warning came when my Dr said I tested postive for cancer. I put down my cigarettes and haven't picked any up since. This coming August will make 10 years of not smoking for me.
She has been smoking for 25years and i think i have tried almost everything and she still wont quit smoking. I have not clue how to get her to quit smoking...

fordtruck.... they don't listen. my Mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer the week my wife died of lung cancer. my mom suffers horrible COPD. she still smokes. i've begged her to quit. it's not happening. i stopped begging.
support your Mom because she is your Mom. the loss may be horrible, but the family wrecking could be worse. take what the belligerent give you. that's what i've come to accept. we can't change the driven. they need to accept the quitting.

I have ultimatley decided that she won't quit smoking and so i dont even bother anymore. It sucks but at least she isnt addicted to drugs and she is the most unselfish person that i have ever known so if she wants to smoke and it makes her happy then i have no problem with it.
Nit i wish..the patches made me sicker than 3 dogs
Lenny, try the Nicorette gum. It's pretty nasty but they do have a selection of a few flavors which makes it more tolerable. I had used it to help get me through long plane flights and I realized it really did help a lot. Also, I found that a half or a third of a piece works just as well and didn't make me feel sick.
I quit March of this year. I tried with varying success all the gimmicks to make it happen. But I did succeed in ending a fifty year addiction. Well that may not be entirely true, but I did manage to quit smoking.
I got myself to buy only one pack of smokes at a time and locked them in the glove compartment of my truck. So every time my smoke alarm went off, to get a smoke I had to put on my shoes, get my keys, walk out the the truck, unlock the glovebox and by the time I did all that, I was thinking I could have waited another hour. So I did. When I wanted a smoke, I got in the habit of telling myself that I could wait an hour. When the hour was up I would do it again, and again. Sometimes I was out the door heading for the truck before I was concious of doing it.... Oh well. But by stretching out the time between smokes more and more I got down to three smokes a day. So then I took it to the next level, saying I don't need to go to the store yet, I can wait until morning. Then I would put it off longer and longer till I felt in charge of my addiction. So, I haven't been to the store for smokes for nine months and I'm going to keep stretching it out. Going for a personal best.
I have some of that gum still laying around in a few places and once in a while bite off a small piece. Stress reaction I guess. The urge has not gone away but I have mastered it. I hope it will eventually go entirely, but if not, I'm just going to have to continue to make the decision not to smoke every single day for as long as I live.
