ok. i have a question concernning the brake light switch. when i step on thebrakes.the brakes work imediately but i have to seriously tromp on the pedal to get my lights to come on. do i just have a bad brake light switch?????
That's what I would try first. Most likely the cause of your problem. I bought one for mine for $8.95 at the local Auto Value parts house. Can't imagine anything else, the sensor is plumbed in right where the pressure is for your brakes. Just my $.02. Brian

The brake light switch is a pressure switch...brake fluid is pushed into an opening on the switch to enable it to work. Old gummy brake fluid clogs the opening...switch dies.
Have pressure switch in both of my 65's and really have not had any problems. Suggest first check fluid level and that there is no air in the lines. As noted, swapping to electric would probably be safer but not sure the sending unit for the elect. switch will work in the pressure switch outlet. Perhaps more knowledgeable member can advise.

The electric switch is mounted to the brake pedal linkage, it does not use hydraulic pressure to operate. You set it to turn on the brake lights when the pedal is depressed, there could be no fluid in the system and the lights would still operate.
if you do a search for brake light swithces for 65 f100, ther are several web site that tell you how to do the swap to electrical switch. the other site is a ford pickup site as well.
When I made the Front disc swap the donor preportion valve had an electrical connector I assumed the brake light switch connected to. Since I used an adapter and kept the pressure switch did not give it any thought, Jus *** u me . Anyhow, makes sense, thanks for clearing it up.

The brake light switch mounts to the brake pedal after 1966.
The proportioning valve is threaded in one place for the low brake fluid warning lamp switch to screw into. That's most likely what the electrical plug is for.
thanx for the tech guys. i put in a brake light switch from a 76 f150. i didnt put the extra bracket on ther though. just took out the rubber bumpstop and put it there. works perfect. now i know the people behind me can see my brake lights. total cost:$20. thanx again.
LMC truck offers new brake pressure switches for $4.95. I was having the same problem and replaced it. Now it works great. Easy fix too.
Welcome to FTE
Why buy from lmc (and pay shipping charges) when every autoparts store in the US sells the same switch?
The switches were used 1948 thru 1966 on F Series trucks, Econolines & 1966 Bronco's and on all the cars from 1949 thru 1964 (& 1965 Mustangs w/generator).
