Rear Main
Hey Guys, I have a 351 in my bronco, Well i bought it about 6 months ago from the second owner. Well i pretty much stole the truck with some minor problems, it needed brakes and tires. I also noticed a rear main seal leak. So i took it into a local mechanic that i trust, while he was fixing it, he called me up and said that the rear main has been scored pretty bad, he said they fixed it the best way that they could and hopefully it doesnt leak but if so i can bring it back in. I have no clue what he means by scoring but i can see why the seal went bad. I pulled a carfax report and the original owner owned it 11 or so years. Well when i bought it it had 65K on it so that means it sat a whole lot. The second owner (the guy i bought it from) Said he bought it and parked it in his garage, he only owned it 5 months. So there was alot of time sitting and not running. But im still confused on what could have happened with that seal to make it leak again. Or even how he could fix it? Any Ideas?

Just tell your mechanic to install a new rear main and a repair sleeve and the thing should be dry as a bone. Here's what the repair sleeve looks like:
