87 bronko V6 cyl 2.9Litre engine dies :
Does anyone know what the problem is?
This problem is / may be related to heat, or runtime.
It will run for four minutes, and then cuts out. regardless of load, rpm, whatever. It does not sputter or miss, no noises, no flutter,
it is like the power switch got flipped, / cut off.
After the engine cools off, the problem is gone,
and it runs again for 4 minutes.
When it runs, it is like this event never happened.
full gastank, that is not an issue.
Note gas is not bad, it runs fine normally
before and after this pesky event.
I already put in a new dist cap and rotor,
and brand new [ ignition module on the distributor].

these symptoms are the sounds of a malfunctioning TFI Module. It is attached to the distributer and contains the ignition module. Whats happening is the module gets hot from the motor and then cuts out causing your Bronco to cut out. Just buy a new TFI Module and your problems should be cured. Just make sure when you install the New TFI module you coat the back with either thermal computer paste or dielectric grease to keep the module from conducting heat off the distributer.
That was my first thought as well, but he says he already replaced the module. Less likely but still possible is the pickup module inside the distributor...
The point is that you don't want the module to get hot, heat is what kills them. Some later Ford vehicles even remote-mounted the TFI module on its own finned aluminum heat sink, a worthwhile retrofit mod for any TFI vehicle.
