I don't understand all if it myself and was wondering if someone could clear it up.
Transfer Case
located after the tranny? basically sends another driveshaft to the front axle, making the axle turn
Hubs when the transfer case makes the axle turn, the front wheels are still "freewheeling" hubs "lock" them onto the axle.
manual TC manual hubs
shifter on the floor, get out and flip/turn the hubs to lock them in
manual TC auto hubs do they exist? shifter on the floor, then thats it
auto TC manual hubs
again, doesn't make sense. do they exist? - push button & go engage hubs?
auto TC, auto hubs
push-button or **** and thats it. the way 90% of the world knows 4wd and what most on here consider the "bad 4wd" b/c it always breaks. just like most "auto" things i guess there's just too many moving parts waiting for failure.
I would consider the auto the bad but if youve had one for years that still works you may be saying no way right now, mine is manual and I believe more of a durable hub system, if you off road a lot def manual, but there is little guessing if it is working or if something is wrong with manual, lock the hubs shift it on the floor, have fun. I would also say that manual is a more time lasting system, if you own a ford I believe its only a matter of time until those auto hubs fail, lots of controversy surrounding ford auto hubs of this era, I think that auto hubs for ford have been abused by people mis using them. Manual for my money.
