multi stage single turbo

Ok. . . i havn't really thought about this alot yet. . . but something crossed my mind recently. I work on turbine engines alot. . . and for those who aren't familiar with turbine engines. . . the compresser is multiple stages of axial compressor fans. Why not add a stage or two of axial fans on the turbo shaft infront of the main compressor wheel. its all about pressure ratios. . .. so i could just imagine tons of boost capibilities. So i'm thinking quickly off the top of my head that it would be the lack of power in the turbine section or something. I just have to think somebody has thought of this before. Any ideas?

Its an interesting idea, but like you said...would the turbine have enough power to turn the compressor wheel without lots of lag? Maybe put a larger turbine in along with it?

Oh, I know next to nothing about a/r ratios and such. Anybody have some good pictures for me to learn from?

I gave you my two cents.
See what you can come up with... it is an interesting idea.
