Driveability Issue

1985 F-150 with 300 six and 4 speed overdrive.
Truck idles fine, accelerates fine, but at cruising speed I get an sensation that the truck is being held back but only for a fraction of a second. It is intermittent and sporatic, almost like a gust of wind hitting you head on. After this happened the first time, I checked for any fault codes - none. I then disconnected the battery for awhile to clear the computer. I then took it for a drive and it seemed fine. Next time I used it, the problem appeared again. Any suggestions?

Is there a write up anywhere on how the computer works for this year truck? I would like to better understand what is being monitored and what things are managed when cruising down the highway.
Thanks for your help in advance.

It's always good to check and or replace the plugs if they have a lot of mileage, and also the dist cap and rotor if they look corroded. Check the plug wires, and all the vacuum lines for cracks. Just go over the engine visually and eliminate the simple stuff first.
