Should I see smoke?

I have a new to me 94 f350 cc drw 2wd 7.3l with factory turbo, 138,000 mi. It runs great, but when I hooked up my 10,000 lbs 5th wheel it couldn't pull a hill well at all. From reading this forum I have replaced the fuel delivery pump and found it has a remanufactured ip. I advanced the timing as much as I could without loosening the injector lines. Seat of the pants says it has more power and feels like it runs "free" as before it felt boggy even when unloaded. I see no black smoke under any throttle condition. I have too much snow to try and pull the 5th wheel now, so can't be sure of power for pulling, but feel it will do better. So should I see smoke and how can I tell if/when I get to advanced on timing.
Thanks for your help,
Al

Some smoke at heavy throttle with a load is a good place to be at, just the right amount.

Thanks for the input, once I am sure the timing is as close as I can get, I will adjust the fuel screw.

When the cold start timing advance is on, below 110 coolant temp, you should hear a rattle like a power stroke engine.
When the coolant temp goes over 117 degrees, the rattle should go away.

You should install a pyrometer if you adjust the fuel.
Could save yourself an engine repair to replace melted pistons.

Dave, Thank you for the input. I do have a pyrometer it is in the down pipe behind the turbo. I have found conflicting information on what temp I should see at that point in the exhaust, before timing change it made 750 when pulling trailer on long hill, after timing change I have not been able to work it hard so cruising unloaded uphill I see 500. I also can not find any crimped spot in the downpipe so wonder if it has been changed for better air flow. I have a boost gauge but at this point have never seen it over 7psi before timing change.

After the turbo 950 is the max temp, the turbo sucks up about 300 degrees.

So when you see 900 you are about as hot as you want it to be for and extended amount of time.

The smashed down place in the stock down pipe starts just after leaving the turbo outlet flange and continues down past the head and part of the bell housing before it becomes round again.

Do you have a muffler?
Are you still using the stock air intake snorkel with the tiny slot over the battery?

Ok looks like the down pipe has been fixed. It is 3" round back to the exhaust brake and then to a short round muffler and 4 inch back from there. I still have the stock air intake. I drove the truck today got on a fair hill that lasts for a couple of miles, in overdrive with gv in overdrive was running about 1600 rpm at 60mpg, pressed it as hard as I could without hitting the downshift and had power to start pulling, no smoke and then it shifted down on me and boost went up to about 5 psi, egt went to 600 and I had to back off because of traffic at 70 or so mph.
