hey i do a lot of hunting in the fall, and my truck has a lot of idle time and cruising along like 5-10 mph sometimes all day, and i have noticed that i have had to add about a quart a month for the last 3 months and i just put one more in today (checked the oil today, hunting season is done now) so i am wondering would all the slow driving and idleling burn more oil that normal everyday driving???? i dont seem to have any visible leaks as i am always checking for them, i am kinda paranoid with it for some reason (FTE, haha).
I have always heard that you are suppose to drive a powerstroke like you just stolen it... Another words, put the pedal to metal. I have also heard guys say their rigs run so better just after getting back from a long hard trip.. Maybe someone here could suggest a good engine flush or additive that would clean the inter workings of your engine..Sounds like your rings are maybe getting carboned up..or your engine is showing signs of wear.

hmm, i hope i dont have engine wear, i have driven on the highway after a day of hunting, and usaully on my way back on the back roads i am doing about40-50 mph.
Mine burns about a quart off after an oil change then the level stays the same till the next time I change it (half way on the hash marks). Everybody seems to have a different situation. Does yours keep getting lower if you dont refill it?
The reason they run better after a long trip is everything has a chance to come up to temp and stay there for a while. It takes a fair amount of time to warm up 14 quarts of oil and the entire block.
Do you have to add a qt. to get it back to the full mark, or does it get to the add mark? Mine is like twags6. It will run forever at a 1/4" above the add mark but will drop from full the that 1/4" mark in weeks. Like he said, all seems a bit differant.
