Hey everyone,
My truck broke down the other day while driving to work. It started knocking and pouring black smoke and then quit. Does that sound like a spun bearing? It's an 84 6.9L. How much of a job is it to change the bearings if tats the problem? Any way to know thats the exact problem without tearing anything apart?
The pouring black smoke would make me think its more likely a fuel problem, which is better news than a spun bearing. My guess would be the IP, but more experiance will come along with other opinions and help- don't pull the motor just yet!
I haven't really done anything to it except change the GP's. I haven't had the truck very long so I haven't had a chance to do anything. I believe everything is pretty much stock on the truck. The injectors look like they have had something done to them because they have black retrun lines and stuff. No, the motor won't turn over with the starter.
Next step- pull all those glow plugs you put in and see if any are broken off, melted, or ???. There can be big problems with aftermarket GP's!! If all are still intact -good. Then will the engine turn over at all??- Hydrolock or mechanical interferance??
A bad injector can make them sound like a rod knock. Check the dipstick for fuel smell. An injector can start slobbering real bad and worst case enough to hydrolock the cylinder
When I changed the GP's they all came out fairly easy and intact. I replaced them with Beru's and I haven't used them since i replaced them. what next?
