Had a flooding problem, so I dropped the float. It worked, the truck does not bog and no gas leaking evident on carb. Funny thing though before dropping float when I stood on brake(5 min or more) the brake idiot light in dash would come on. Now the brake pedal doesn't drop and the idiot light does not come on. Don't get me wrong, I like this new fix but please explain to me how the level of the float in the carb has anything to do with my brakes. I told you my truck had a mind of her own!!
Forgot to mention the pedal also dropped slowly, not to the floor but it did drop a little before I adjusted the float.
once you get the mixture better you will probably create a better vacuum and that may possibly help the power brake booster.
other than that maybe a coinsidence :-)
If you do/don't have power brakes - Your post wasn't all that clear about your brakes. When you come to a stop sitting at a light, does the pedal start traveling down towards the floor - like the brakes are losing hydraulic pressure? If so, your MC is shot. Coincidence.
Your mileage blew me away. What are you runnning on your truck (tire size, rear ratio, and tranny)? My tired '79 (~190Kmi) gets ~14MPG if the wind's blowing my way.
In reply to previous posts my truck has power brakes. Pedal used to only drop after standing on it for 5 mins or more, the pedal didn't bottom out just dropped about an inch. If you pumped it once the pedal came back up to where it should have been.No leaking oil, new master cylinder, but who cares it doesn't do it now. But Why is the question??
In reply to another post my 78 has a RUG(German3-SPD with an overdrive gear). The tag on the rear says 3 00, so I assume it's a 3.00 ratio rear end. New rubber,Canadian Tire Roughrider AT's P235 R15's. 26.5 miles per gallon at 90kms with approx. a 25 km crosswind.
LAST EDITED ON 18-Oct-01 AT 02:12 AM (EST)[p]To the gas milage, remember the size of the Canadian gallon is not the same as the US. Excellent but highly possible. the best I have done is 22 MPG (US) driving from sea level, over a 4200 ft pass to 1700 ft and back. Average speed of 55 miles per hour. Herman
