I'm thinking of installing an extra fuel tank in my 08 F250 SC SB. There are two types that are being considered. One is the type that pulls from both tanks at the same time and the other pulls from one tank at a time. The one that pulls from one tank at a time can be can be hooked to the factory fuel gauge and monitor each tank independently. The one that draws from both tanks at a time comes with a monitoring device that will read the level in each tank. My question is, if I choose the two tanks at the same time method it will equal 60 gallons. Because it is over the factory 30 gallon tank, can the factory computer be reprogrammed so the miles to empty, and the average miles per gallon still be read. Thanks.
Here's a thought, if it pulls from both tanks at the same time your existing tank will empty slower. If the fuel computer reads off sending unit it should fix itself to the extra capacity.
Hopefully someone that has add an extra tank will chime in and let you know for sure.
2 at the same time seems like more of a pain. if you only need to fill 30 gallons, you'll have to fill 2 tanks, not 1. i have an older 250 with 2 tanks from the factory (that pull separately) and i frequently fill one when it's empty, then run off the other...except on trips of course. if they pulled together, i'd have to fill both every time. granted, there's really no reason why i do that other than peace of mind.
if you ran it to empty every time, no reason not to pull at the same time, just something to think about.
I too agree with the seperate pulls. I have had both systems and appreciate the knowledge of how much fuel I really have. I know after I switch tanks that I should be looking for a fuel stop to top off the one and fill the other. I always finish running on the one I just topped and then switch after it is at 1/8 tank. If you had a single draw system, what happens when you get a bad tank of fuel? In the seperate system you still have the option to only drain the bad fuel and have one good tank with 1/8th good fuel in it. I would NEVER run a tank empty on a trip. Just IMHO.
