Friend of mine has a 4r70w behind a 4.2 v6. Anyone know of a good place to get a used one in the SE. Also, whats the goin rate for havin one of these professionaly rebuilt? Are they pretty good? Is it worth getting done. The truck has 207k on it.
If you can make the trip in daytona and orlando there are a couple of boneyard that
have a set price for everything and I have seen them have sales of 75.00 for any trans
or motor on the yard, Not to mention sales on a lot of things starters for 10.00, power
window switches 2.00 I like going to those yards and keep an eye on there ads!!
Ok, this trans was needed for a friend of mines truck. We picked up a used one for $640. BUT! He did a poor diagnosis and thought the trans was slipping when actually the engine was misfiring so bad that it felt like a slip to him. So after I drove the truck, and realizing the misfire, I thought all was well with the trans after driving it pretty hard to make sure. Shifted firm and somewhat on time. When I returned to the shop, I rolled it in and kicked it in neutral but it still tended to roll forward on flat pavement. Thats weird. Put it in reverse and it loaded down and went into reverse but it would not start to roll backwards unless you hit the gas a little. Back into neutral, let off the brake and it start to push forward pretty hard but not like the full force of drive gear. So somewhere, somehow the trans is fighting against itself?? Is that a valve body issue with the solenoids? I thought they just were for the forard gears when they shift. Should I keep the used trans we got to replace this one? Does this sound like I'm about to loose this tranny anyways?
I have a 1995 F-150 with the 4R70W behind a 5.0L. Transmission went out at 130,000, and again at 160,000, both times without abuse. I've had it parked for 2 years now, as I consider the transmission trash, but have been looking around. You might look at this place. I have no experience with them, but it looks good. http://www.ford-aode.com/
