What should I look for when I start my quest tommarow of why it's idleing too high (guesstimated about 2000 RPMs? The screws dont change the idle. I'm gonna check it out tommarow when I get home from work. Could It be a vaccume leak, or could it be my electric choke (temp disconnected cause I was too excited about getting it running to connect it) holding the high idle too high or what? I only have about and hour or so to look into this cause I don't think my neighbors will like my truck until I get an exhaust put on it. ANy ideas?
I had the same problem when I put my 4-bbl. on. turns out that I had forgotten to hook up the pcv valve in the back of the carb. just double check everything and look for possible vacuum leaks
LAST EDITED ON 15-Oct-01 AT 08:14 PM (EST)[p]I believe it's the carberator it's self. There is no vaccume leakage that I'm aware of (the old WD-40 trick informed me on this) and with or without the throttle cable, If I pull on the throttle lever arm, it slows the Idle a little (about 200 RPMs). I'm gonna take it back and get another to see if that helps. Thanks for the help. I'll keep ya posted.
By the way, I have tried adjusting throttle lever adjuster all the way in and out with no avail.
Hey, I have an '84 F150 with a I6, my idle would be raely high sometimes, really low other, it turned out to be the Idle Speed Control Motor, it has a plunger that pushes the throttle linkage, i jsut disconnected it and it works fine. It should be on the side of the carb, have like 4 or so wire going to it. Just a thought.
