My buddy found a 77and a half F250, they told him it had a 60 front. Not to positive but i thought you got a 44 high pinion in the front. Its not a highboy, anybody heard of this?
i believe that the d60 didnt start in f250s until 78. But over the years anyone could of put anything they wanted into it, my 77 has a d60 up front, and the previous owner swore it came like that from the factory, but after doing research i found out the axle was out of a 79 f350. But i dont know much about number, the easiest thing would be to just look at the diff. Dana 60s and 44s look pretty similar to eachother, the dana 60 is MUCH large though in just about all respects, plus if it's a ford it should have twin piston calipers.
super easy ways to determine whether or not you have a 60. Size is one, but you have to have experience enough with both to determine the difference.
A D60 from that era will have be a king pin axle, and a D44 will have ball joints. Still can't tell?
A D60 will have the steering arm on the driver side tha has 4 bolts tha attach it on the very top of the knuckle, and the D44 will only have three located a little lower.

The D60 will require a 9/16" socket to remove the inspection cover bolts, and the D44 will only require a 1/2" socket.

Good luck, hope it is a later model open knuckle 35 spline unit. The others were not very desireable.
thanks for the help. He just called me and said that it was a D60. he got the D60, all the steering components, and the power steering gearbox for $350.
