First post.. Front end rattle

ok so its a 2001 f250 4x4 lb ext cab with a 6 speed.
In the front anytime i go over a series of small bumps and just driving on really bad pavement i have a very solid sounding rattle and/or knocking in the front. I had the truck on a lift checked every bolt, shocks, and other things i could find to tug on and nothing was loose. Wheel bearings are also fine. My buddies '99 4x4 has the same excact noise and still no idea where it is comeing from. Any suggestions?

Sway bar drop link bushings or track bar bushings. Most likely sway bar but could be both.

As much tension as there is on these components while sitting on the ground, you will not feel much while pulling and tugging on them by hand.

I just replaced my sway bar bushings with a set of poly bushings. You will have to take the drop links into a machine shop to have them pressed out but reasembly is a fairly easy job.

You can also remove your swaybar and drive around and you will know if it is the bushings.

I changed mine a few weeks ago. I didn't feel like just changing the bushings so I bought new links at the dealer.

I third sway bar and sway bar link bushings. One easy way to tell is disconnect the links and drive it. That'll let you know for sure.

I fourth the sway bar links. I just replaced mine two weeks ago and the difference in ride quality is like night and day. I also had a front end clunk that went away after the links were replaced. The left one was so bad I could see daylight through the bottom joint.

I have the same problem on My truck also. Are the bushings something that I can get at a local parts store or dealer item?

Not the dealer. They told me they are not changeable. I was getting the whole links anyway. I started to tell them they were full of it, but I let it go.

Good luck.

I ordered my Energy Suspension bushings online HERE.

To replace the bushings, you will have to have a machine shop press out the old ones. It shouldn't cost more than $15-$20 to have that done.

The energy suspension part #'s are 4.5186R for red and 4.5186G for black.
Just make sure your sway bar is 32mm or 1 1/4" dia. and you're good to go.
The bushing kit cost me $36.00 locally vs. $70-$80 each for new end links.

With the front end having so much weight on it, and all the road goo with oil and chemicals, they take the rubber bushings to an early grave. Polyurethane is the only way to go on these trucks.

Good luck,

Austin
