Has anyone every gone ***** out and extremely supped up their 300 ? I'm talking about custominzing it from air filter to tailpipe and all in between: FIPK, Performanc T/B, Spacer, Manifolds, Lifters, Rockers, Forged Pistons, Cam Shaft, Headers, Cat's, Flows, Cowl Induction hood, S/C or NOS, etc... Well maybe not that much but if you have done a lot to it to increase performace throw done what you did and what your engine is now producing (i.e. hp, torque, mpg, even top speed if applicable) I would like to know what this beast is capable of. I would just love it if it could go 0-60 in 5 sec. while towing a 20ft powerboat and getting 35 mpg.
Awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have cold air induction and a LOUD pipe!
I only get about 14mpg though. I dont have a
20 foot boat either. Sorry.

Don't get me wrong I love the 300 engine it is one of the best ford has ever made, but if you are wanting to drag race your truck this is not the engine you want. The 300 just has way too long of a stroke for this application. you are not able to turn it as hard as you could a 351. The fastest I have ever been brave enough to turn my 300 is about 4500. I know a racer that has a 351 and he has turned his 9,000 before. If you are wanting to fix up a drag racer, go with a 351. There are also a lot more performace parts out there for this engine.
forsure, i would never think of trying to get my truck into drag mode, i was just looking to boost this bad boy up to more than 200 horses. I would love to get this cherried out and go to one of those ford shoes where they do "drag" and see what it could pull of with some nice mods made to it. I was just looking to see how far people have gone with their 300's, upgrades and whatnots, and what did they get out of it. I would love to be pumping around 250hp, instead of like 165.
rayvin,
I've also wondered how far people have turned up their 300's. I would love to work mine over. Right now my F100 needs a rebuild title to put it back on the road. Instead I just mess around with it and beat it up good. I've made that engine scream many of times with no concern about blowing it. Some time I'll throw a tach in it to see how far she goes. I'm thinking of finding a proper sized turbocharger for it and making up the manifold and intake to mount it. You could call it an experiment. Right now it's an idea though. Some day she might be have the works done to her. Just a good engine in a beat up truck right now. Hmmm, say bore it 60 over, put the quality internals in, turbocharge it, and is it possible to run nitro with a turbo? It would be one hell of an engine. Just a thought/dream.
Just 5500??? I have hit 7000 with my HD, but, it's a long way from stock.... I am building a race 240 HD around a 320M cam, just for the hell of it, 10,000 should be possible with it's 3.18" stroke the forged crank, that cam and a tunnel ram....

My 1980 300I-6 with only a new intake, carb, cam (272 degree), and headers will do @5250 rpm but I only get about 10mpg MAX. My tranny and rearend are killing me on gas (borg-warner T18 and a 3.25 rearend). But if I go beyond 4750 rpm it is like the clutch is slipping or sumpin just no pull. Oh well.
