EFI 4.9, E4OD, 3.08 gears. 1990 Ford F-150. Looking for some more power WITHOUT going INTO the engine. I already have added a K&N FIPK, Dynomax Super Turbo muffler, and bumped up the timing. I already tried a catback, and removed it after a month due to loss of torque and mileage. I do NOT want to go into the engine replacing cam, porting head, or anything like that. Just wondering if anyone is running a chip, what brand, and does , or did it help any??
Thanks,
BOB

They told me in my application I would gain 13 HP & 35 TRQ at the rear wheels. I definitely felt it got a little faster, about the same feel between full dual tanks and empty duals. No problems- would recommend it. The only downside is it requires 93 octane. Also installed a K&N- reputed to give 5-7 HP & TRQ. I couldn't feel anything from that. Have been waiting for my muffler to go so I can change it over to a DynoMax, but the stock system is still very solid, only the hanger rods are all rusting thru.
I dont think any one add one performance part or application is going to deliver as much as a 13 Hp increase , Those numbers are derived under a very careful set of cirmcumstances & operating conditions which I doubt any of us could duplicate . Read the fine print when it comes to how they arrived at those numbers . Plus the 300 was never designed to be a speed engine , it develops all its power at a relatively low rpm , its a work horse engine . With your truck , the rear end gears are geared more toward a combo of fuel economy & light duty service . Adding lower rear end gears will add some power but rob the fuel economy , The stock 300 with 3.55 , 3.73 gears would be a better overall choice depending on what you haul or tow .
