i have a 1997 ford f-150 flareside truck. the rods and bearings when out so i have been looking for an engine. i have found one close to home at a junkyard. it has 80,000 miles on it and its being sold to me for 650.00 which i thought was a steal. now its a 4.2 V6 as well but the odometer in this used engine is digital and my engine that went bad is not digital. my question is, will that engine fit in my truck or do i need something special since the odometer will be digital now? what steps should i look at next in order to get this engine in my truck. thanks.
Not sure about exactly what would be required to interface the newer engine to your older truck.
I am sure it could be done, but honestly, I think a complete set of wiring diagrams for both would be required and then it would just mean a lot of time piecing all the stuff together.
For example, I believe the '97 used two separate temp sensors for the engine, and thereafter only one was used.
Good luck with your project and let us know how it goes if you decide to pursue it.
i asked the garage who is working on my truck this question and he told me it wouldn't be a big problem and he could make the switch without much difficulity at all. so i'm not really sure. i'll keep you all posted. maybe i should just throw a for sale sign on it and go from there.
think i will check and see how much it will be to rebuilt the engine. i'd rather pay to get it rebuilt then pay 650 or so at a junkyard and have it not work!!!
