New head?

I'm new to the site, and I'm wondering if anyone has heard of putting the head from a different inline 6 on the 300 (Sorry, can't remember which motor the donor is) I've been told that it bolts right up and gives a very high compression ratio, in the neighborhood of 10:1. Also, I'm looking for any other engine mods that will give me more power (preferably nothing I have to yank my motor to install) It's currently running on propane if that helps, and it's in an 85' F-150.
Thanks for any info.

The 240cid L6 engine is the same family as the 300L6. They will swap, and the 10:1 or whatever final compression you get will be workable using propane.. While you've the head off, you might as well swap a cam in there too. An RV-type cam if you want close to stock, or a 270 or greater cam if you want more mid/upper range power.

The 240 is the same engine as a 300 except for the shape of the combustion chamber, the crank and rods. CC the head and calculate the compression ratio before you install it, it may have been shaved, also have it die checked for cracks. Remember to also use the volume of the pistons if they are the stock dished type when you do the calculations. The 240 head cleans up really well and has a nice shape. With stock pistons, gaskets, head hasn't been shaved or reworked, stock dished pistons etc, if I remember correctly it worked out to 10.5:1. Herman
