o2 sensor code

o2 sensor code
hello, my father 98 f150 has a 4.2L in it and the engine light was on, so i took it to have the code pulled and it was a P0153, sensor 1 in bank 2 was slow to respond during testing. the engine light was off this morning, and i know it usually takes a few drive cycles before the computer will turn the light off if there is a code. but i went and ordered the new o2 sensor this morning from ford anyway, it should be in this afternoon. my father still wants the sensor replaced. do you think that is the best thing to do in this situation?
