Found something interesting during fuel filter change
So there I was... Pulling the old yellow lever, unscrewing the cap, pulling the old filter out, trying to push the new one in... Hmmm... It won't go in as far as it used to... Push harder... Still won't go in... Pulled it out and peek into the housing to see a strange looking sheetmetal piece in there. Yep. The sheetmetal lower cup from the previous filter was still in there, verified by looking at the half naked filter I pulled out. Wow. Didn't know that could happen.
Pulled it out and low-and-behold there was a second sheetmetal piece sitting right under the first one from a previous filter change. Apparently the design allows for an additional cup to be present and still function. LOL.
Anyone else have the luxury of running dual lower cups?
Sorry guys, my digital camera died last summer on the Rubicon Trail. I was filming an MPEG from inside my buggy (MAD MAX) and it was a bit too much shock and won't focus.
Unfortuneately there's an annoying kid in the second vid thinking his dog was going to get run over...
I don't know the mfg of the filters, I bought them online and there isn't a MFG name on them. I know I bought them where most of you buy them though.
I have run B99 more often than not this year. But I am pretty sure I'd see something in the OEM filter if something was breaking down in the Dahl, but maybe not. I have had one hose that I put on, I think a 30R7, develop a pin hole.
Take a look next time you replace your filters and see if you guys are runnin' dual cups too!
FD, do you run any Bio through that thing? I seem to remember hearing that Bio will break down the glue on the Dahl filters.
I just changed out my Dahl filter today since I was seeing pressure drop on my fuel gauge. There is some glue that holds a seal to the filter that pretty much dissolved from the bio. The seal was fine though. There is some kind of epoxy like substance that binds the filter element to the stamped steel end caps that was fine too.
