How have ya'll tightened that elusive front header bolt on the bottom? I have a 1985 I-6 with the single outlet header and Cliffy intake and that is the ONLY bolt I can't tighten. The header is bent just right so I can't get a socket down in there and The smog-pump/altinator bracket makes it almost impossible to get a wrench in there. Any ideas?
I know exactly what your talking about. While I put headers on a efi motor I am sure it is about the same. On mine if I had dimpled it, well or dented it would be a better description I could have possibley been able to get a socket on it. Instead I used a small open ended wrench that took a while and a whole lot of questionable language but I got it somewhat tight, hopefully it was tightened enough. Without a doubt that falls into the top ten catagory of a pain in the a@@ to do. Good luck
I have a 68 F100 with the Clifford stuff and I couldn't get a socket on there either and my open end wrenches were a little to thick to get in between the pipe and the bolt. I used a 14mm cone wrench from my bicycle and ground it down a little to fit. These wrenches are very thin and you can usually pick one up from a bike shop for cheap unless you know some one who works on bikes and can loan you one.
