i've been doing some research online and my next truck has to be an excursion, majority of what i have found(mostly auto-trader) seem to have tons of the V10's as opposed to the "other" motors....my thing is this.....
initially i heard horror stories about the V10 versus the PSD's until i read this forum. no i know that i'll be getting the V10 for sure!!! question is this.....
1. whats a good price to pay for a early V10 EX?
2. whats the difference between the 2v and 3v? which is better and finally.
3. what mods can i do for more power? and what can i do to extend
4. should i spring for a later yr like an 04/05,less miles and less potential repairs?
the life of this rig 'cos i think these things are BRUTES!!! just love the way it looks!!!
i dont plan on towing much just need a safe big hauler for my dogs.....and tools.
thanks all.
My take on this...
#1 Price depends on mileage , condition, package etc
#2 Not sure...
#3 Noting much literally unless you have a PSD, For V10s don't waste money they are best as they come. Plenty of power as long as you don't run freight company.
#4 V10 has been a good motor, only some early engines had some issues(plug issues).
1. whats a good price to pay for a early V10 EX? what ever you can afford... while maintaining your way of life.
2. whats the difference between the 2v and 3v? which is better and finally. Unfortunately, the 3v was not offered in the Excursion line.
3. what mods can i do for more power? and what can i do to extend. More bang... more bucks. Do a search and even better yet, check out the V-10 forum... lots of great info is out there. Like anything you own, good preventitive maintainance will extend the life of almost anything.
4. should i spring for a later yr like an 04/05,less miles and less potential repairs? IMHO... If you can afford (see #1) an 05 with less miles... do it!!!
Good luck on your quest... you have started at the right place... I too started my quest here at FTE and I found a GRRREAT X.
There are ton of mods you can do to a diesel on the perform side. The diesel will get petter MPG and have a higher resale value than a V 10. I have 2 Diesel Excursions and would get another diesel excursion in a heart beat

P.S Welcome To FTE. You will find tons of info here for your new truck

2.The 2valve has 310 HP and 425 lb-ft of torque. The 3valve has 362 HP and 457 lb-ft of torque, but the 3valve was never available on Excursions, so the
V-10 Excursions will only have the 2valve engine

4.If you want to, why not? I'd go for it.
Thanx guys for all the input..........i already know this is definitely the way to go,its HUGE!! Its a domestic and V10.....it sucks that they are that cheap but hey! more choices for me.
if i'm offered a good deal on a later year ex like an 05 then i'll take it otherwise i'll go with an older moder and pay attention to preventative maintainance.
I have the 6.0 and get 16-17 in town and 20 on the highway, dude go diesel you WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!! That thirsty V-10 will not go 800 miles on a tank like the diesel will!!

This is turning into a diesel vs gas thread. haha jk but none of that here. The guy wants a v-10, so he'll buy one. Im done rambling about which is better cause this can turn into a 5 or 6 page thread very easily

Yes I agree. farrk007 wants a V-10 and thats what his questions are referring to, so lets keep the answers pertaining to V-10's.
yeah....i kinda noticed it was turning into "one versus the other" thread.......and from what i've read the V10's are quite capable so thats what it is for me.
I have a V-10 and I love it it does OK on the F&E gauge you just have to keep your right foot off the long skinny pedal and it will do fine........................but hearing the 10 cylinders rev is fun too
