Heating Problems +?

03 F-350 6.0 Diesel 4x4, no mods, 285 R70's, 151KM (95 000 miles). I have been having some problems with the trruck's heating. I live in Cold Lake Alberta Canada (-21 deg celius today -35 with the windchill and yes it is plugged in). I have had the truck for 3 years. The first winter I owned it there were no issues. Late last winter I noticed the truck was not putting out much heat even after good and warm. The air coming out at full heat was above freezing but not by much. I took the truck to the dealer for a seperate issue of a slow leak in coolant and when it came back the heat worked again. I am not sure what they fixed, the said a leaking valve but I can't remember now what type of valve. Early this winter it seemed to work fine but now that the temp is consistently below freezing I am having the same issues again. Again all temps appear normal. (factory gauges).

Any help would be appreciated.

On a seperate issue (I think seperate but adding here just in case it might be related.) The cooling fan seem to come on much more than it used to. It used to come on when pulling my 5th wheel and that was about it. It is now coming on even when pulling my quad trailer and below freezing temperatures outside. The temps still look in the quite normal even just prior to the fan coming on. Idea's?

BTW I am new here and this is my first post. I have been enjoying reading the threads and am now seriously considering disconnecting my EGR Valve.

Cold Lake , Alberta! The name makes ME cold! Can't help with the heating problem but just make sure the truck is off when you unplug the EGR. Stay warm.

Im no expert but if the engines up to temp, turn heater on full heat with the fan on low, then feel both lines going to the heater core & see if both are warm if only one is maybe a bad bad valve or controller. if the are both warm then maybe you have a stuck mixer door in the system.that could be caused by a bad actuator or a vacuum leak. thats just the basic stuff & a good place to start. good luck.

When you say the temps look normal when the fan kicks on, are you using the factory temp gauge or an aftermarket one? The factory temp gauge is pretty much just a dummy light and won't really move until you are overheated.

As far as no heat coming out I would do as Johnny567 said. On the passenger side you should see two heater hoses going from the engine to the firewall. Check and see if either of those are getting hot. It could be that the valve that stops coolant from flowing into the heater core is getting stuck.
